Georgia man convicted of US Mail drug distribution

VALDOSTA, Georgia (WRBL) – A Georgia man faces potential life imprisonment after being convicted by a federal jury.

Darren McCormick, 33, was convicted Wednesday for attempting to distribute methamphetamine through the US mail. He was found guilty of possession of methamphetamine in a census for the purpose of distribution.

McCormick could face anything from 15 years to life in prison, coupled with a $ 10,000,000 fine. McCormick has yet to be convicted.

Court documents shared an informant who briefed law enforcement officials about McCormick’s drug distribution in Berrien County in 2020. The informant said McCormick was selling drugs that were regularly reported in the US mail.

Evidence presented at the trial shared an event on May 7, 2020 where the informant picked up an alleged package from the Post Office before picking up McCormick.

He was later arrested in possession of 217 grams of methamphetamine found in the package that had been sent.

Georgia Middle District Attorney Peter D. Leary thanked the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office in a press release for their work on the case.

“Darren McCormick’s attempt to receive a significant amount of methamphetamine in the mail and distribute it to a community in South Georgia was prevented thanks to the efforts of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office. Repeated drug traffickers who sell the deadliest narcotics are being held accountable in the Georgia Central District. “
