COLFAX – On Friday, April 30, 2021, a Georgia man pleaded guilty in Whitman County Superior Court and was convicted of second degree extortion with sexual motivation. Jordan Bowen, 24, from Newnan, Georgia, will be jailed for 15 months after his release, an additional 3 years under custody, and will be required to register as a sex offender.
Mr. Bowen had no connection with Whitman County or the victim, but received nude photos from a WSU student. He then created two fake identities and contacted the woman through social media. Mr Bowen proved to the woman that he had the revealing photos and threatened to send them to her friends and family if she stopped sending him more nude photos. Although he demonstrated the ability to contact her friends and family, the woman declined and reported him to the social media company. She then reported the case to the WSU police. After a very thorough investigation by WSU Police Sergeant Matt Kuhrt, who worked closely with Sergeant Robinson of the Newnan Georgia Police Department, they were able to link Mr. Bowen to this crime.
In addition, the investigation of this crime resulted in charges of possession of child pornography in Georgia, and after serving his prison sentence here, Mr. Bowen will return to Georgia, where he faces more jail sentences in that state.
The prosecution was carried out by Assistant Attorney General Dan LeBeau. According to LeBeau, “we strongly encourage you to report the case to local law enforcement agencies. Anyone who feels they are a victim of this type of crime is highly recommended. This type of predatory behavior can be stopped and the perpetrators brought to justice.” and hopefully the healing can begin for the survivors. “
