Georgia Mae Hase, aged 89, of Hager City, died at Ellsworth Health Services on July 15, 2023. Georgia was born on February 15, 1934 in Bagely, Wisconsin; the daughter of James and Beulah (Quaterman) Champion. She grew up in Maiden Rock, where she went to school. On August 8, 1960, she married her best friend; Ernest Hase at the Lutheran Church in Red Wing, Minnesota. This union would be even more blessed with four children.

Georgia worked for many years as a waitress in Maiden Rock and Bay City, as well as for 63 Tavern. She also worked at Red Wing Industries for many years. However, many will remember her presence and smile as she served as a manager at Myron’s Hallmark in the Red Wing for more than 30 years. She thoroughly enjoyed working there and made many lasting friendships.

Georgia was a passionate gardener thanks to Ernie with his green thumb. She especially liked that he planted perennials that welcomed hummingbirds and butterflies.

Watch out on Sundays! Green and gold flowed through her veins and she always made time to watch her beloved Green Bay Packers. She was very proud that Ernie was in the armed forces. She was in the women’s charity.

Also, she loved to play games. Whenever her family got together, the cards would come out. She was always the first at the table. From Canasta (which was always the loudest), 9 Card, Euchre, Kings Corner, Bingo and many more. Plus putting together puzzles. She loved the exuberant atmosphere and at the same time was there to win. Make no mistake, if she erased her card, she’s unleashed a solid bingo! She probably wore out her keys playing mahjongg on the computer. She loved to read.

She loved watching birds in all seasons. But the hummingbirds were her favorite. Her family meant the world to her. Georgia will live in the hearts of her children: James Holt, Rhonda (Mike) Johnson and Ernest (Toad) Hase, and son-in-law Mike Becker. Along with her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sister Joan Doherty. Sisters/brothers-in-law Eugene (Helen) Hase, Joe Hase, Charlotte Borst, Susie Siewert, brother-in-law James Halverson and Leonard (Reid) Miller. Before Georgia died her parents, husband Ernest, daughter Cindy Becker; siblings Mildred (Orville) Carstens, James Champion, younger stillborn brother Richard Lee; Brothers/in-laws Robert, Ronald, Thomas, Howard, toddler Neil Rabbit, Shirley Halverson and Mary Miller. While in the nursing home, she had a very special friend named Betty Christon who idolized her.

A memorial service honoring the life of Georgia will be held on Saturday, August 19 at 10 a.m. before the 11 a.m. service at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth. Memorials are preferred to family discretion. Burial will take place at a later date in Maiden Rock Cemetery. Cremation and memorial services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Ellsworth, Wisconsin.
