ATLANTA (CBS46) – Rideshare Lyft released its first safety report this week. There were thousands of known sexual assaults, including some deaths, related to its platforms from 2017 to 2019.
Lyft says more than half of sexual assault incidents were reported by drivers and 10% by third parties, including law enforcement.
4,158 reports of sexual assault related to Lyft’s ride-sharing app – in just three years.
“It’s heartbreaking. Hearing the pain in our clients’ voices; it’s devastating, ”said Angela Labels, attorney with the Levin Simes Abrams law firm.

“The spectrum of case types ranges from sexual overtures and propositions to rape and sodomy,” says Labels.
Lyft’s publication shows that among sexual assault reports in 2017, 2018 and 2019 there were 360 rape reports and 10 deaths from physical assault.
Levin Simes Abrams law firm is serving 22 lawsuits against Lyft, Georgia.
Her most recent case reportedly occurred in June of this year. The Douglasville victim said she was drunk and the Lyft driver insisted on taking her to her hotel room and that was when she raped.
“It’s horrific. It obviously weighs on the survivors, and that’s a trauma they’ll struggle with for the rest of their lives,” Labels said.

“Every Lyft rider can share their location with a trusted friend or family member. Pay attention to the automatically generated route that the Lyft app generates and pay attention to whether the driver deviates from the route, ”said Nehmen.
To contextualize the data, Lyft says 99% of its trips are safe and uneventful.
