September 16, 2021 – The Georgia Legal Services Program recently announced the addition of two new associates to its legal team in the Savannah Regional Office. Harris R. Mason joined the firm as a housing attorney and will handle a variety of housing cases with a focus on landlord-tenant matters. Mason is a graduate of Young Harris College with degrees in business administration and public policy. He received his JD from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2018. While in law school, Mason served as a research assistant to Professor Hillel Y. Levin, President of OUTlaw and Communications Director for the Working in the Public Interest Conference. Mason was a law clerk in the Superior Courts of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit and most recently worked as an associate at Silver & Archibald in Athens. He currently serves as a board member of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia.
Zuhra Aziz will also join the firm as a 2021-2022 Aaron L. Buchsbaum Fellow. She received her law degree from Emory University Law School in May 2021. She graduated from Emory at Oxford and holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Emory University. Zuhra has always had a passion for public service and human rights, which led her to pursue many public interest opportunities throughout her college career. While in law school, she enjoyed her time as a student attorney for many of Emory's legal clinics, including the International Humanitarian Law Clinic, Turner Environmental Law Clinic, and Barton Juvenile Defender Clinic. Ms. Aziz is fluent in Farsi, Spanish, and Urdu.
The Buchsbaum Scholarship was endowed by the family of the late Aaron L. Buchsbaum, a Savannah attorney known for his civil rights work. The scholarship funds a graduate of Emory Law School to spend a year in the Savannah regional office. The most recent Buchsbaum Scholar was Allen Kowalczyk.
