Georgia Hospital Workers Class certified in retirement plan position

Former employees of Columbus Regional Healthcare System Inc. obtained the class certification in a lawsuit alleging that the company violated its fiduciary duties by failing to carefully monitor investment options and spending on its retirement plan.

Columbus Regional failed to persuade the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia that each allegedly imprudent investment should have its own subclass.

While there could be varying degrees of injury and potential degrees of recovery, “the court sees no benefit in subclassing the proposed class by investment option,” Judge Clay D. Land wrote Wednesday.
