Georgia GOP and Brian Kemp goal mail-in voting

Georgia shocked the nation in the last electoral cycle when the Democrats won the presidency and two Senate seats in the typically red state. The Republicans licked their wounds and fought for new laws to make it more difficult for citizens to vote by post in future.

Freshman State Sen. Jason Anavitarte Senate Bill 29 was introduced on Wednesday, requiring voters to take physical copies of their photo IDs and then send them to election officials not just once but twice before they can cast a postal vote, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

The republican government of the state. Brian Kempwho refused to support the former president Donald Trumps Efforts to overthrow the 2020 elections gave the measure its full support. During Kemp’s previous tenure as Georgian State Secretary, he was responsible for a massive cleanup of the electoral roll before his race against the then-governor-candidate Stacey Abrams (D).

Peach State, like almost every other state that does not have universal postal voting, saw a tremendous influx of postal ballot papers in the last election, resulting in a record-breaking turnout and no evidence or evidence of widespread fraud. With Democrats dominating a significant majority of mail-in voters in Georgia, the GOP-dominated legislature seeks to restrict easy access to ballot papers.

Despite repeated false claims by former President Trump that he actually won the state in November, several statewide exams and recounts found minimal attempts to vote illegally, all of which were caught and not counted towards the grand scale. Trump’s brazen attempt to convince foreign ministers Brad Raffensperger (R) “Finding” the votes needed to reverse the result went nowhere.

Fair Fight, the suffrage group led by Kemp’s former opponent Abrams, accused Republicans of attempting to suppress Democratic voters, even if doing so increased other risks for Georgians.

“Republicans are trying to change the rules of the GA election – rules they wrote – because they were humiliated on November 3rd and again on January 5th, knowing that their only chance of winning future elections is in it is to prevent eligible Georgians from casting their ballots. ”Wrote the group on Twitter. “In fact, Republicans seem willing to risk Georgian identity theft in order to impose restrictions that they believe are not necessary to protect our elections.”

According to the AJC, the legislation requiring voters to produce copies of their driver’s license, voter ID, U.S. passport, government ID, military ID, or tribal ID is supported by state executive officials, including Lieutenant Gov. Geoff Duncan, House speaker David Ralstonand Kemp.

“In needing access to a printer that many Georgians obviously don’t have, Republicans are deliberately trying to deny many Georgians the opportunity to vote by mail simply because they believe too many Democrats and too many people of color have voted by mail . ” wrote Fair Fight. “The Georgians will see through this cynical takeover, but it will require a great struggle for anyone interested in the right to vote in Georgia. Republicans are more desperate than ever to hold onto their dwindling power. “
