Georgia Frances (Georgie) Janosec Mokry McCurry from Taylor, previously from Austin, died on August 2, 2021. She was born on January 11, 1933 to Joseph (Joe) and Franciska Doubrava Janosec in Taylor. She grew up in Rice’s Crossing and attended the country school in Rice’s Crossing. She graduated from Taylor High School. She served in the Austin state government for 20 years. She told interesting stories about her “capital city days”. She was the secretary of Bob Bullock when he was Secretary of State.

In 1951 she married Milton Mokry at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor. The union has been blessed by two wonderful children, Scott J. Mokry (Scotty) and Marcia Ann (Marcy). Milton died in 1970.

In 1976 Georgie married Harold McCurry of Fort Worth at St. Mary’s Church in Taylor. Harold died in 1999. Georgie was an active member of the Saint Mary Catholic Church in Taylor. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary. She also married both husbands in St. Mary’s.

Georgie was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years. She was also an active member of the Saint Ann’s Altar Society. She was devoted to her family and valued her many friends.

She loved to travel. In 1970 she traveled to the Czech Republic with her mother. Her mother was born in Czechoslovakia.

Georgia was an excellent cook and decorator and hosted a lot of parties. She had a loving and compassionate heart.

The Rice’s Crossing community was very important to her. It was their “home base”. Her favorite pastime was reading the biographies of famous people.

Georgie was preceded in death by her parents. Her father died in 1976, her mother in 1982.

She was also preceded by her brother Victor J. Janosec, who passed away in 2017; and her son-in-law Casey Allen Teague, who died in 2006.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband Milton and second husband Harold.

Those who keep their memories are her son Scott J. Mokry from Austin and daughter Marcia Ann Teague from Rice’s Crossing.

She adored her grandson Sterling Allen Teague and his wife Angela von Elgin and grandson Ashton Andrew Teague and wife Lauren von Taylor.

Georgie is also survived by her great-grandchildren Casey Allen Teague, Hayden Andrew Teague, and Korbin Miles Teague; her step-daughter Eve Sumner from Las Vegas,

Nevada; her beloved cousin, Allen James Doubrava of Rice’s Crossing; and Lucy Mokry and Vicky Hurley from Austin.

We are sad. She was the matriarch of our family and so loved. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 10th at 2:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Taylor.
