Georgia Ethics Committee Chairman resigns, paving the way in which for the Home of Representatives software

At least two other Republicans have already signed up for McBath’s seat: Eric Welsh, a retired Army Colonel; and Harold Earls, a U.S. Army veteran with a large number of YouTube and Instagram followers who also plans to highlight its underdog appeal.

With potential candidates still unsure of what the county lines will be and the maps won’t be redrawn until the end of the year, Evans and other formidable contenders are still on the sidelines. These include Senator Brandon Beach and former Rep. Meagan Hanson.

Depending on how the district lines are drawn, Republican candidates in the neighboring 7th district could also switch races to challenge McBath. That means that Dr. Rich McCormick, an ambulance doctor who narrowly lost to Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux in 2020, could swap contests.

The ethics agency is tasked with collecting reports on campaign funding, vendor gifts, and lobbying expenses; Registration of lobbyists; Submission of expert opinions; and imposition of penalties for violations.
