Georgia enforces stricter residence rules for foreign nationals

Tbilis, October 1 – Georgia has introduced stricter rules for foreigners who violate the country's residence and immigration laws. The new measures will be effective from today.

As part of the changes, foreigners who exceed their permissible period of time are exposed to fines from 1,000 to 3,000 lari (approx. 350 to $ 1,050) and are no longer entered in Georgia for a specified time. The Criminal Code has also been changed to make foreigners on Georgian territory to make deportation easier.

The law makes it clear that deportation and re -entry bans are not enforced if an extradition procedure is underway, except in cases in which the deportation would return the foreigner to the same state that requested delivery.

The new rules aim to optimize deportation procedures and at the same time increase the penalties for immigration injuries.
