Georgia cop shot useless, manhunt underway

A Georgia police officer was shot dead Wednesday afternoon while responding to a call about an armed robbery.

Clayton County Police Department Sgt. Julia Issac said the officer was taken to a local hospital and Fox 5 Atlanta reports that the officer is expected to survive.

Issac urged those in the area to stay indoors as the suspect is not yet in custody.

The incident comes amid a recent spate of police officers who have been shot dead on duty.

Nine Arizona police officers were shot dead on February 14 while responding to a domestic dispute.

Two New York City police officers were shot dead on January 21 while responding to a domestic violence call involving a mother and her son.

Two St. Louis police officers were shot dead in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, on Jan. 26 after spotting a vehicle that authorities say may be linked to a homicide.
