Georgia Congressman faces firing for touch upon Arbery’s demise

Deputy Georgia Paul Urhahn is facing termination after posting a comment on Facebook Ahmed Arbery “still got the death penalty”

Urhahn, a 20-year veteran of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, eventually deleted the post, but not before it was seen by many, who screenshotted the comment and shared it on social media. The MP who wrote the comment last week has been suspended without pay while awaiting his fate.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Urhahn’s remarks were condemned by many, including other law enforcement officials who called for Urhahn to resign. Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton notified Urhahn of his suspension because “the actions violated several departmental policies on employee conduct.”

Arbery was shot and killed while jogging on February 23, 2020 Gregory McMichael, His son travis, who fired the fatal shots, and William Bryan who cut off Arbery trying to run away and filming the incident.

The elder McMichael, a retired police officer, told officers they chased Arbery in a truck after he thought the black man looked like a suspect linked to a series of burglaries in the Brunswick area.

All three men were found guilty of murder and assault. Both McMichaels were sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years, while Bryan was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 30 years.

Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper Jones, said during her testimony that all three men deserve life in prison.

“These men chose to lie and attacked my son and his surviving family,” Jones said. “They all have no regrets and deserve no indulgence. This was not a case of mistaken identity or fact. They chose to target my son because they didn’t want him in their community.”
