On behalf of the Georgia Attorney General, I would like to express my condolences to the family, colleagues, and many friends of the attorney and former Rep. Henrietta E. Turnquest following her death on March 29th.

Ms. Turnquest has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 1973, initially one of fewer than 50 African American lawyers in Georgia. She was one of the first few women of color to serve in the Georgia General Assembly. She represented DeKalb County in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 2002 and was the first African-American woman to serve as head of administration after being appointed by Governor Roy Barnes. She also led the integration of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers.
