GEORGIA (WRBL) – Over the Labor Day holiday weekend in Georgia, 15 people died in traffic accidents and hundreds were arrested for driving under the influence, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
The agency said in a news release that the Georgia State Patrol was investigating nine fatal traffic accidents, while local law enforcement was investigating five. The crashes resulted in 15 deaths statewide during the 78-hour holiday season.
Local law enforcement agencies reporting deaths include the Atlanta Police Department, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Clayton County Police Department, and the Cobb County Police Department.
More than 300 people were arrested for drunk driving.
Troopers also investigated more than 400 traffic accidents across the state, resulting in over 200 injuries.
More than 12,600 traffic stops were carried out, with 7,300 notices and over 7,700 warnings.
