ATLANTA (AP) – A former employee of Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan was arrested Monday for sending emails posing as a powerful Republican for information about her divorce.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Beth Green surrendered to the Paulding County Sheriff’s office on Monday on charges of impersonating an officer or employee, computer breach of privacy, and computer intrusion.

An arrest warrant was issued against Green on Friday.

Green was Director of Operations in Duncan’s office from January 2019 to July.

The 49-year-old Acworth resident is accused of taking her state-issued computer when she left the lieutenant governor’s office and using it to send emails pretending to be Duncan, according to an arrest warrant. The lieutenant governor’s primary role is to preside over the state’s Senate.

MPs accuse Green of sending seven emails from Duncan’s email address in July seeking information about her divorce from her divorce attorney. The warrant does not explain why she allegedly posed as Duncan to get information from her own lawyer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Sheriff’s Office declined to answer questions, citing the ongoing investigation.

Green’s lawyers, including Taff Wren and lobbyist John Clayton, did not immediately respond to an email asking for comment Thursday.

Green’s husband filed for divorce in April and a judge ended the separation in September.

It’s free with a $ 10,100 deposit.

“The lieutenant governor’s office has been informed of the arrest of a former employee,” Duncan’s chief of staff Macy McFall said in a statement to the newspaper. “Staff will continue to work with law enforcement as the investigation into these incidents continues.”
