Experts Say Florida’s New Immigration Law Will Impact Immigrant Community, Businesses and Georgia – WABE

More than 800,000 undocumented people live in Florida. Many became scared and fled the Sunshine State because of the new immigration law.

Florida’s Senate Law 1718, which goes into effect July 1, makes it illegal to transport or employ undocumented people. In addition, doctors must ask their patients whether they are legally in the United States. With the law’s enactment, several migrants have fled Florida and arrived in states like Georgia, where they are relocating and looking for work.

On Friday’s Closer Look, Giselle Carson, a corporate immigration and compliance attorney in Jacksonville, Fla., and Justin Howell, executive director of the International Rescue Committee in Atlanta, discuss Florida’s Senate Bill 1718 and how it will affect businesses and migrants both Florida and Georgia.
