Editorial: Reinforcements Arrive to Win Georgia to Christ

The Georgia Baptist Convention, the state’s largest religious organization, continues to grow both numerically and ethnically.

17 new congregations have joined the Georgia Baptist Convention, which has approximately 1.4 million members in approximately 3,600 congregations.

Four of the new churches are Spanish. Three are Korean. Two are African American. One is Russian. And you describe yourself as mostly deaf.

Georgia Baptist Mission Board Executive Director W. Thomas Hammond Jr. welcomed the new congregations at the Bicentennial Geogia Baptist Convention November 14-15.

The best way for churches to bring a nation of 11 million to Christ is to unite. These new churches are realizing that they can be much more effective when they partner with others.

“We still have work to do to reach our gospel state, and I hope that with their love for Christ and enthusiasm to serve Him, these churches will help move us forward,” Hammond said.

The new churches are Anchor Church in Evans, La Cosecha in Oakwood, Purpose Church in Hoschton, Crossroads Church South Fulton in Fairburn, Redemption City Church in East Point, Adelphos World Missionary Church in Buford, Agape Deaf Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Glory of The Lord Korean in Duluth, Iglesia Cristiana Elevation Point in Grayson, Kingdom Kulture International in Ellenwood, New Song Korean Baptist Church in Buford, Legacy Church of Madison in Madison, City View Church in Atlanta, Family Church in Marietta, Somos Ecclesia in Buford, Ark of Salvation Church in Powder Springs, Mar de Galilea in Byron.

La Cosecha, Iglesia Cristiana Elevation Point, and Somos Ecclesia have been identified as predominantly Hispanic communities.

Adelpho’s World Missionary Church, Glory of the Lord, and New Song are predominantly Korean.

Ark of Salvation is the Russian community.

The family church sees itself as a multicultural church.

The five others are identified as predominantly “Anglo” communities.

Welcome to the Georgia Baptist Convention. May the favor of the Lord be with you as you seek to win the state to Christ.
