Draft constitutional amendment in Georgia to protect “family values” approved by committee

The Legal Affairs Committee examined and supported in the first reading the draft constitutional amendments to the Constitution of Georgia as well as family values ​​and the protection of minors. According to the amendments, the following paragraph 3 is added to Article 30 of the Constitution of Georgia: “The protection of family values ​​and the values ​​of minors is guaranteed by the constitutional law of Georgia, which is an integral part of the Constitution of Georgia.” In his opinion, the draft Constitution addresses various issues related to marriage, adoption and care of minors, medical procedures for gender reassignment, the indication of gender in official documents, the use of concepts defined by sexual characteristics, the compilation and dissemination of information. “This draft constitution aims to strengthen the mechanisms for protecting family values ​​based on the union of a man and a woman and the welfare of minors,” stressed Rati Ionatamishvili.
