The Department of Homeland Security has removed a list of so-called “Sanctuary jurisdiction” from its website after receiving pushback from cities and sheriff associations.
The list, which was interspersed with spelling mistakes, received criticism from civil servants in communities who stretched from urban to rural and blue to red, who said the list did not seem meaningful.
The list was published on Thursday on the department's website, but on Sunday there was an error message “Page not found” in its place.

Last week, the department announced that more than 500 jurisdiction in the whole country would receive a formal notification that the government kept it as uncooperative with the enforcement of the immigration of the federal immigration and whether it violated the federal law.
The list was part of the efforts of the Trump administration, communities, states and jurisdiction, of which they say that they do not do enough to help the immigration authority agenda, and the promise that the President made to deport more than 11 million people without legal approval.
The list is constantly checked and can be changed at any time and is updated regularly, said a high -ranking official from DHS.
“The name of a sanctuary for jurisdiction is based on the evaluation of numerous factors, including self -determination as a sanctuary on jurisdiction, non -compliance with the federal law enforcement authorities in the enforcement of immigration laws, restrictions on the exchange of information and legal protection for illegal foreigners,” said the official in a statement.
Local perspective:
Athens, Atlanta and the counties of Athens-Clarke, Dekalb, Douglas and Fulton were reported for guidelines that say that federal officials say that they limit cooperation with immigration and customs authority (ICE).
These jurisdiction are not only listed in public, but also the potential loss of federal financing. The federal authorities have the task of checking grants and contracts to determine which can be suspended or terminated on the basis of non -compliance.
Although there is no official legal definition for a “jurisdiction” for sanctuary, the term usually refers to places where local governments or law enforcement authorities restrict their cooperation with the enforcement of the immigration of the federal government.

After the list had been published, Fulton County officials gave an explanation in which she did not know why the district was put on the list and was working to reserve the name.
“Fulton County corresponds to the state and state laws, including the law of Georgia, which prohibits the jurisdiction of the sanctuary. Our law enforcement authorities fully cooperate with the state and federal authorities in enforcing the applicable laws.
In California, the city of Huntington Beach made the list, although it had submitted a lawsuit in which the state's immigration protection law questioned and this year a resolution was passed in which the community was declared a “non-sanctary city”.
Jim Davel, Administrator of Shawano County, Wisconsin, said that the admission of his community must have been an office error. Davel voted for Trump as well as 67% of the Shawano district.
Davel believes that the administration confused the district's voice in 2021 into a “Sanctuary County of the Second Change”, which prohibits weapons control measures, and it is a safe haven for immigrants. He said the district had not approved any immigration protection policy.
