Improving oral health equity for underserved and rural communities in the United States remains a challenge. According to the CDC, Medicaid beneficiaries in Georgia walk an average of 15 miles more for dental work than their non-Medicaid counterparts. Low-income, racial/ethnic minorities, and populations facing problems accessing healthcare in the United States are all at higher risk of developing oral health problems.
A new partnership between Dentistry.One, LLC, a virtual-first dental care company; and Kare Mobile Inc., a dental services organization focused on innovation in a direct-to-consumer oral care delivery model, is bringing together best-in-class virtual dental and mobile dental care to close gaps in access to care for more than 600,000 Amerigroup members throughout Georgia.
In an announcement last month, Amerigroup donated two custom dental vans that Kare Mobile will use to travel throughout Georgia in partnership with local dentists and hygienists to provide preventive and restorative dental care. Dentistry.One will support this effort by:
- Ease patient care by eliminating unnecessary in-person appointments;
- Facilitate scheduling in-person patient appointments;
- conducting virtual patient screening and assessments; And
- Solving the transportation problems faced by Medicaid members across Georgia.
