Georgia’s redrawn congressional and state legislature maps can stand for the 2022 election despite doubts about their legality, a federal judge ruled.

The maps drawn by the Republican-majority legislature in Georgia are being challenged as violations of the federal Voting Rights Act.

U.S. District Judge Steve C. Jones agreed that the challengers “will likely ultimately prove certain aspects of the state’s redistribution plans are unlawful,” but denied their requests to prevent the 2022 election maps from going into effect .
