Committee approves draft constitutional amendment in Georgia to protect “family values”

The Committee on Legal Affairs examined and supported in the first reading the draft constitutions on amendments to the Constitution of Georgia and on family values ​​and the protection of minors. According to the amendments, the following paragraph 3 is added to Article 30 of the Constitution of Georgia: “The protection of family values ​​and minors is ensured by the Constitutional Law of Georgia, which is an integral part of the Constitution of Georgia.” According to him, the draft constitution addresses various issues related to marriage, adoption and care of minors, medical interventions for gender reassignment, indicating gender in official documents, the use of concepts defined by sex characteristics, gatherings and dissemination of information. “This draft constitution aims to strengthen the mechanisms for protecting family values ​​based on the bond between a man and a woman and the well-being of minors,” noted Rati Ionatamishvili.
