AUGUSTA, Georgia (WJBF) – Sunday morning’s IRONMAN competition was overshadowed by tragedy when Augusta’s attorney George Hall died during the swimming section. His friends and colleagues remember him as a successful lawyer, dear friend, and devoted husband and father.
“His loss on Sunday morning came as a great shock and left us all with great sadness,” said David Hudson, friend and colleague.
“It’s incredible,” said Shanda Vaughn, friend and president of the Augusta Rotary club. “It’s hard to process at all at this point.”
George Hall was an attorney with the Hull Barrett law firm for more than 30 years and, along with many impressive professional achievements, served as President of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.
But his friends say his greatest joy is family.
“He was devoted to his family. His wife Margaret and two adult sons, ”said Hudson. “And only earlier this year had they welcomed their first grandchild … a little girl. And that gave George great pleasure. “

Vaughn adds, “He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very nice. A calm soul that is always very attentive to the needs of its surroundings. “
George was an active member of the Augusta Rotary Club for 30 years, and on Monday the group took time to remember his legacy.
Vaughn said during the meeting, “The loss of George is being felt in this club and throughout the community.”
Hudson says George was a great leader at the Reed Memorial Presbyterian Church.
September 27th would have been George’s 60th birthday, but his friends say they find hope in their shared faith.
“We are grateful to know that George was a child of the Lord,” said Hudson. “He will spend the rest of his days in the presence of the Lord.”
