Borrell: New law on family values leads Georgia further away from the EU path

EU High Representative Josep Borrell today called on Georgia to withdraw the law on “family values and child protection”.

The law was adopted by the Georgian parliament in third reading yesterday and “takes the country further away from its EU path,” Borrell said in a post on X.

He added that the Georgian parliament had passed laws “that will undermine the basic rights of the population and increase discrimination and stigmatization.”

Georgia's accession process is currently de facto halted. The EU has regularly called on the government to return to the path of EU integration.
