Army investigates Georgia base after family of four found dead

Authorities say they are investigating the deaths of a family of four found in their home at Fort Stewart Army Base in Georgia.

“Fort Stewart law enforcement – in collaboration with the Army Criminal Investigation Division – is continuing the investigation into four individuals who were found dead in their home on the postal route on Wednesday, November 15,” said Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson in an emailed statement.

“The deceased include a female soldier, her male spouse and their two children,” the statement said. “Her identity will not be released at this time for next of kin notification and privacy reasons.”

Fort Stewart police said they were at the scene of the incident, which occurred at the base's postal shelter, on Wednesday afternoon. They said there was no reason to believe there was an ongoing threat to the community.

Authorities later said they found the family dead in their home after the soldier unit asked them to conduct a welfare check. They arrived at her home around 2 p.m. and found the family unresponsive when they entered.

They were pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m., the base said.

Fort Stewart police and the Army Criminal Investigation Division will continue to investigate the deaths. Larson's statement said the investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
