Amerigroup Georgia, in partnership with Eastchester Family Services, Help a Child Smile, the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) and the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), has newly opened a comprehensive health clinic at the Fulton County Juvenile Justice Center in Atlanta. The clinic provides spa visits, dental exams, and behavioral health services for children placed in foster care. These services are designed to conveniently meet the initial health care needs of children enrolled in the Georgia Families 360° program and to ensure timely admission appointments are scheduled after the 72-hour rehab decision.

The Fulton County Juvenile Justice Center handles the housing and legal affairs of a significant number of Georgia Families 360° participants each year. Unfortunately, many of these children and families encounter barriers in accessing essential medical, trauma and dental care. Establishing this clinic is a critical step in closing these health care gaps by enabling early detection and intervention, providing personalized care, addressing mental health issues, ensuring continuity of care, providing preventive interventions, and providing advocacy and support.

Georgia Families 360° serves over 32,000 youth beneficiaries of the program, many of whom live primarily in Fulton County. Many of these people are involved with the juvenile court for a variety of reasons. Amerigroup’s newly established clinical facilities provide visitors with access to primary care services, early and regular screening, diagnosis and treatment (EPSDT) services, immunizations, laboratory services, dental care, counseling/therapy services and more. Services are not limited to foster parents affiliated with the Fulton County DFCS.
Eastchester Family Services (EFS) is a nationally recognized community-based organization dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of modern families. Through the effective integration of behavioral health and primary care services, EFS strives to improve clinical outcomes, increase access to health care, and improve the overall quality of life for its clients and their families. Founded in 2003 by Milton Brown, a licensed masters social worker and former educator in the Atlanta Public School System, EFS works with federal, state, county, medical and educational institutions to provide integrated healthcare solutions.
Every year, over 51 million school hours are lost due to poor oral health. Help A Child Smile is tackling this national crisis by providing dental care that meets patients where they are. Each of their affiliated dentists are fully licensed in Georgia and are supported by licensed dental hygienists and/or professional dental assistants dedicated to providing the best possible care for children.
Originally opened in 2017, the clinic has been temporarily closed due to COVID-19 restrictions but is now reopening to resume providing essential services. The reopening event included an open house and speakers from Amerigroup executives and community partners.
