Both candidates running for District 107 of the Georgia House of Representatives in the November 8, 2022 general election — incumbent Samuel Park (D) and Hai Cao (R) — completed Ballotpedia’s candidate affiliation poll. These poll responses allow voters to learn directly from candidates what motivates them to run for office.
88 of the country’s 99 legislative chambers will hold regularly scheduled elections in 2022. The Republican Party controls both houses of the state legislature. Georgia is one of 23 states with a Republican trifecta.
Here are excerpts from the candidates’ answers to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Park:
“If re-elected, I will continue to work to address Georgia’s healthcare challenges as this remains one of our greatest unmet needs. Although we have made incremental progress, much remains to be done. Medicaid expansion remains good public policy, as demonstrated in 38 other states. Covering our uninsured population would reduce the billions in unreimbursed healthcare costs that have forced so many hospitals in Georgia to close and expand access to preventive care that will improve healthcare outcomes in a fiscally responsible manner.”
Cao:
“The freedom of choice, economic liberty and legal rules of this ‘land of the brave’ have enabled me to make a successful transition from being a poor political refugee who escaped the North Vietnamese communists who invaded my South Vietnam in 1975, to a successful systems engineer in the aerospace electronics industry. As a state representative, I will fight to preserve freedom, capitalism and the rule of law in Georgia for younger generations as a form of ‘pay it forward’.”
