GEORGIA (WDEF) – Good news for some government officials in Georgia.

The state has decided to offer a one-time bonus of $ 1,000.

Georgia House spokesman David Ralston announced this at a press conference on Wednesday.

The bonuses were originally intended for Georgia educators, but the revised budget of $ 59.6 million will include payments to government employees who earn less than $ 80,000 a year.

The awards go to nearly 57,000 government employees in most government agencies.

Georgia’s District 1 Representative Mike Cameron says, “We just felt we had to do something for the people. They work so hard, long hours and they do so much work and a lot of it is ungrateful and behind the scenes. We must recognize the contributions of Georgia State employees and seek to serve them and their families. “

Representative Cameron says he doesn’t know when employees will see the bonus.

Like so many hardworking Georgians, civil servants have overcome the challenges of COVID-19 while also helping our citizens. With these rewards, we can say thank you and prioritize those that make Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family. https://t.co/NMortB0cV1
