10-year-old Georgia girl dead after suspected drunk driver fell into ditch with open container – WSB-TV Channel 2

VALDOSTA, Georgia — A 10-year-old Georgia girl was killed in a car crash when a suspected drunk driver swerved off the road in Lowndes County, according to Valdosta Daily.

Autumn Schmid was riding in a car driven by Jodie Everidge on Saturday when MPs said Everidge went off the road and into a ditch and hit a tree.

Two other occupants in the car, a 38-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. They have not been identified.

Everidge was charged with manslaughter with a vehicle, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, double security, failure to secure a minor under the age of 7, possession of an open alcohol container, improper/erratic lane departures, willful obstruction of law enforcement officials who prison records indicate a child contaminate and endanger people when driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“[Herbst]enjoyed spending her days with her dad at the lake and spa days at home with her mom and little sister. She loved playing softball with her team,” family members wrote in her obituary.
