Here are the top three stories in Smyrna Vinings today:

  1. Georgia hospitals have established police forces to protect staff from increasing violence from patients and visitors. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp recently signed legislation increasing penalties for assaulting hospital staff and allowing hospitals to develop independent police policies. This new law aims to protect Georgia hospital workers from increasing violence from patients. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  2. In nearby Brookhaven, Puppy Haven is hosting its sixth annual Party for the Paws event in support of the Atlanta Humane Society. The party will celebrate both the 10th anniversary of Puppy Haven and the 150th anniversary of the Atlanta Humane Society. The event features live music, vendors, food, drinks and entertainment for the on-site children. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. This week the Smyrna Fire Department launched the Smyrna Safe Business Program. The program is designed to help companies build resilience and preparedness in the event of an emergency. Businesses that complete the program are recognized by the Mayor and Council as Smyrna Safe Businesses. The first of the five sessions focuses on identifying threats and developing business readiness strategies. More information about the program can be found here. (Fire Department Smyrna)
