Here are the top three stories in Smyrna Vinings today:

  1. Georgia hospitals have established police forces to protect staff from increasing violence from patients and visitors. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp recently signed legislation increasing penalties for assaulting hospital staff and allowing hospitals to develop independent police policies. This new law aims to protect Georgia hospital workers from increasing violence from patients. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  2. Puppy Haven will host its sixth annual Party for the Paws event in support of the Atlanta Humane Society. The party will celebrate both the 10th anniversary of Puppy Haven and the 150th anniversary of the Atlanta Humane Society. The event features live music, vendors, food, drinks and entertainment for the on-site children. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. A team of researchers from Georgia Tech has developed an automatic feeding machine for gorillas at Zoo Atlanta. The ForageFeeder allows primates to forage more naturally instead of requiring staff to deliver food at regular intervals. The machine costs $400 and is easy to make and modify.
