Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- On January 19, the canton’s mayor will deliver his annual speech on the state of the city. Canton City Mayor Bill Grant will speak at the city council meeting. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. You can attend in person or view the entire meeting online. (Canton GA)
- In March, Georgia’s abortion laws will go before the court. The Georgia Supreme Court will consider passing legislation based on a law just passed in South Carolina. The South Carolina Supreme Court has ruled that banning abortion after six weeks violates the state’s constitutional right to privacy. The decision came two days after the FDA announced that more pharmacies across the country would be able to offer abortion pills. (The Augusta Chronicle)
- A Canton woman who died in a freak horse accident is commemorated in a race. 20-year-old Breanna Chadwick was killed at a rodeo event in July 2022 after a horse ran into a gate that hit Chadwick. Bree’s Mile of Memories will take place on January 21st at Etowah River Park in Canton to honor Chadwick and her love of running. (WSB-Atlanta)
- Get ready to celebrate local films and filmmakers! The Woodstock Arts Film Festival takes place on January 21st from 12pm in nearby Woodstock This will be the first film festival. Filmmaking teams are encouraged to read the guidelines and submit their cinematic creations. (All events)
